Disney Princess - Octavia

I really hadn't planned on doing Mulan when I set out to do this series. Then again, I had only planned on doing the Mane Six and CMC, and clearly I'm past that point. Truthfully, I don't know that anypony's canon personality really matches up with Mulan; many people cast Rainbow Dash as Mulan (I did too, originally), and in general Mulan is often typecast as "the athletic one." However, having recently rewatched the movie, I realized that Mulan isn't all that sporty or tomboy-ish at all, but rather becomes a good soldier because she's determined and quick-witted. She can keep up with the men in her battalion, but she's able to save China not through physical progress but instead because she's "got a brain, [and] always speaks her mind." As I watched the movie, Mulan reminded me of Twilight more than any other MLP character.

But Twilight's already Belle, so that left me with Tavi. She doesn't have a canon personality, but in fanon she's usually reserved but opinionated, passionate about what she loves (usually her music and Vinyl), and extremely intelligent. Like Mulan, in most fanfics I've read Octavia feels like she's trying to fit an upper-class mold that she's not really comfortable with, and often she has to come to terms with her parents or society looking down upon her chosen lifestyle.

That's my reasoning and I'm sticking to it! I realized after doing Lyra that I really did want to include all of the princesses in the official Disney Princess lineup in this set, so expect Rapunzel and Pocahontas in the next few days as well. I've decided on Rapunzel, but I'm still debating about Pocahontas's casting.
